An analysis of banking sector operations in Montenegro showed that at the end of 2021 the five main banks in the country accounted for almost 75% of all sector assets. The total amount of net loans of 11 banks at the end of last year amounted to a record 2.88 billion euros and was almost 74 million euros higher than at the end of 2020. The total level of loans in the banking system increased by more than 1 billion euros over 10 years.

Banks earned a net annual profit of 148 million euros from interest and almost 38 million euros from fees. The banking sector's profit at the end of 2021 amounted to more than 36 million euros, and the annual level was 63% higher compared to 2020, according to the portal Bankar.me.
