The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, spoke in favor of the accession of the Western Balkan states to the European Union.
According to Sassoli, EU enlargement will benefit both the region and Europe as a whole, as it will ensure “stability, prosperity and peace on the continent.” He also emphasized that the European Union must “keep the promise” made to the Balkan countries.
At the same time, he noted that the pace of enlargement depends on each individual Western Balkan country.
“Reforms must be fully implemented in every state,” the channelRTS quotes Sassoli as saying in an interview with Germany’s Funke Mediengruppe.
Recall that earlier the EU administration in Brussels changed the rules for new countries joining the community. The changes primarily affected the Balkan countries, which are first in line for EU accession, such as Serbia and Montenegro.
