Montenegrin company Telekom has put into test operation a 5G network in Bijelo Polje and Berane, which has created real prerequisites for the commercial launch of 5G services throughout Montenegro.
Thus, Telekom — a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom Group — became the first telecommunications operator in Montenegro to successfully test a 5G network at several points in Montenegro under real conditions, that is, in the mid-band frequency range currently available to users.
5G in Montenegro
“By developing electronic communications, we support the socio-economic progress of Montenegro. We can confidently say that we have justified the title of leader in the telecommunications market. We deliberately chose the north, wanting to stimulate the development of this region rather than put economic return on investment first,” said Predrag Stanišić, head of Telekom’s access network in Montenegro.
He stated that the project was implemented primarily with its own funds.
Stanišić thanked the entire Telekom team and recalled the great support provided by colleagues from Deutsche Telekom Group and long-time partner Ericsson.
The Executive Director of Montenegrin Telekom, Dina Cibuljska, said that the company is the operator with the largest share in Montenegro in data exchange via mobile Internet, and that its mobile network is the fastest, according to many studies.
Montenegro is still waiting for the creation of regulatory and technical conditions for the implementation of the 5G network at the state level, when the 3.5 gigahertz (GHz) frequency will be allocated to operators through a spectrum auction.
