Montenegro’s Minister of Finance and Social Welfare, Milojko Spajić, announced the creation of a blockchain and cryptocurrency department, reports RTCG.

The department, as announced, aims to create a new pillar of Montenegro’s economy through regulation of the crypto market in Montenegro.

“The Ministry of Finance’s blockchain and cryptocurrency department will help the citizens of Montenegro become familiar with the world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, as well as establish a safe and fair legal and regulatory framework for the growth of this sector of our economy,” the minister said.

Ethereum cryptocurrency founder Vitalik Buterin has received Montenegrin citizenship

A week earlier, the Ministry of Finance and Social Welfare (IFSS) announced that one of the leading experts in the blockchain industry, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, received Montenegrin citizenship.

“Vitalik Buterin, as the most famous name in this industry and the founder of Ethereum, will contribute to the further promotion of Montenegro and the overall development of the crypto industry in our country. Montenegro is working on creating a legislative framework that will make the best use of this technology and contribute to the growth of gross domestic product,” the IFSS said.
