During the period of the “Citizenship by Investment” program, the authorities of Montenegro received 86 applications for a “golden passport.”
Nearly seven million euros have so far been received into Montenegro’s budget from the program, while nine million euros were received into investors’ accounts over the same period.
Citizenship by Investment Program
As a reminder, the law on the program for issuing Montenegrin citizenship was introduced in November 2018. The first applications for obtaining Montenegrin passports through investment began to be accepted in January 2019.
The program runs for three years. Interested candidates must invest from 250,000 euros in one of the projects in the north of the country or from 450,000 euros — on the coast or in the country’s capital — Podgorica. Full list of projects for obtaining citizenship.
Priority sectors include infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and the processing industry. The program quota is 2,000 people.
The main advantage of obtaining Montenegrin citizenship isthe opportunity to become an EU citizen in 2025.
The application fee is 100,000 euros. It is important to understand that this money is not refunded to the applicant regardless of the decision made — whether positive or negative. Purchasing real estate in Montenegro does not provide the opportunity to obtain citizenship.
How to obtain economic citizenship of Montenegro
Submitting documents for citizenship can be done remotely; applicants need to come to the country once. At the same time, investors and their family members will not need to renounce their original citizenship in favor of the Montenegrin one; they will be able to keep both.
