According to the Montenegrin statistical office Monstat, the number of companies and entrepreneurs in Montenegro in 2021 amounted to 39,682, which compared to 2020, when there were 37,255, represents an increase of 6.5% in percentage terms.
The largest number of active entrepreneurs in 2021 is in Podgorica — 14,145, which accounts for 35.6% of the total, while the smallest is in the municipality of Petnjica - 31, or 0.1% of the total.
By ownership form, of the total number of business entities in Montenegro, more than 99% are privately owned. The same situation was recorded in 2020 as well.
In Montenegro, small enterprises are the most represented, accounting for more than 99% of the total number of active enterprises.
